Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from Kigali or a nearby location. After meeting your guide, you will start the scenic drive toward Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. The journey takes you through beautiful rolling hills, rural villages, and terraced farmland that characterize the landscapes of Rwanda and southwestern Uganda.

After crossing the border into Uganda, continue toward the park while enjoying breathtaking views of the Virunga Mountains, including the famous volcanic peaks of the region. Arrive at your lodge near the park in the afternoon and check in for lunch.

In the afternoon, you may relax at the lodge or enjoy an optional cultural visit to the Batwa People, the original forest dwellers who once lived within the park. During this experience, you will learn about their traditional hunting skills, culture, and history in the forest.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Return

After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for a briefing by park rangers. The guides will explain the rules and safety guidelines for gorilla trekking before assigning you to a specific gorilla family group.

Accompanied by experienced trackers and rangers, you will begin your trek into the forest in search of the mountain gorillas. The trek can take between 1 to 5 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas within the forest. Along the way, you may encounter other wildlife species, birds, and unique vegetation.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them at close range as they feed, groom, and interact with one another. Watching these gentle giants in their natural environment is one of the most powerful wildlife experiences in the world.
