This 4 Days Uganda Rwanda Safari offers a short yet rewarding adventure combining the best wildlife experiences of both countries. Beginning and ending in Kigali, Rwanda, this safari takes you across the scenic border into southwestern Uganda to explore Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Travelers will experience the highlight of gorilla trekking, one of Africa’s most unforgettable wildlife encounters. The journey also includes breathtaking views of the Virunga Mountains, local community interactions, and relaxing moments around beautiful landscapes such as Lake Bunyonyi or the surrounding highlands.
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will meet your safari guide who will brief you about the journey ahead. Depending on your arrival time, you may enjoy a short Kigali city tour, visiting cultural and historical sites before beginning the drive toward the Uganda border.
After crossing into Uganda, continue through the scenic hills of southwestern Uganda toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The drive offers stunning views of terraced hills, rural villages, and lush vegetation often referred to as the “Switzerland of Africa.”
Arrive at your lodge near Bwindi in the afternoon or evening, check in, and relax as you prepare for the exciting gorilla trekking adventure the following day. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers about the rules and guidelines of gorilla trekking. You will then be assigned to a gorilla family group and begin the trek into the dense rainforest with experienced guides.
The trekking experience can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. As you hike through the forest, you may encounter other wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and forest plants unique to the region.
Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one magical hour observing them as they feed, play, and interact within their natural habitat. This close encounter with the gentle giants of the forest is a truly emotional and unforgettable experience.
After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, you may take an optional community walk to visit local villages and learn about the traditions and lifestyle of the people living near the forest. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.
After breakfast, depart Bwindi and drive to the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, one of the most scenic lakes in East Africa. Surrounded by terraced hills and dotted with small islands, the lake provides a peaceful atmosphere perfect for relaxation after the gorilla trekking experience.
Spend the afternoon enjoying optional activities such as canoeing, boat rides, bird watching, or cultural visits to nearby communities. Lake Bunyonyi is also known for its calm waters and stunning landscapes, making it an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the beauty of southwestern Uganda.

After breakfast at the lodge, begin the scenic drive back to Kigali, Rwanda. The journey passes through beautiful rolling hills and countryside, offering opportunities for photography and short stops along the way.
Upon arrival in Kigali, depending on your flight schedule, you may visit local craft markets or enjoy lunch at a city restaurant before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
